We identified the most common toxic chemicals found on many military bases: 2,4-D & 2,4,5-T (Agent Orange); Benzene; Carbon Tetrachloride; Hexavalent Chromium; Methylene Chloride; PFOS; PFOA; Tetrachloroethylene (PCE); Toluene; Trichloroethylene (TCE); and Vinyl Chloride.
Then, we matched them with the diseases and cancers they are believed to cause. Find your disease and find your associated chemical(s). Seek the advice of a medical doctor.
We have the names and we know the clinical diagnoses of 1,600 people who lived on Fort Ord. Many died young. We know certain military jobs result in a greater likelihood of people being sickened by chemicals. We also know that living in specific areas on base may result in higher incidences of disease. We are also deeply concerned about the health of people living on highly contaminated lands today. The Army says the toxic areas have been cleaned up and the lands currently being transferred for development are safe. We want to do environmental testing of our own to make sure human health is protected.
We must test indoor air and drinking water for volatile organic compounds like Benzene, Toluene, Trichloroethylene, Carbon Tetrachloride, and Perchloroethylene. We also want to test soil dioxin and groundwater and surface water for PFAS.
